As a lifelong advocate for justice, equity, and opportunity, I am stepping forward to serve our community with the leadership, accountability, and integrity we deserve. Whether it’s access to quality education, affordable healthcare, economic opportunities, or public safety, the community deserves a representative who listens, acts, and delivers real results to protect democracy and reflect our Democratic values.

Latonya is a community advocate and union leader guided by a simple promise: that everyone deserves a fair shot. This belief, a gift from her mother, drove her to pursue a Bachelor’s from the University of Minnesota, a Master’s degree, and doctoral work focused on public service and justice. She has spent her career fighting for fair wages, an equitable criminal justice system, the right to vote for every citizen, and policies that ensure housing and healthcare are accessible to all.
I’ve spent my career standing up for working families every day, not just talking about them in Washington. As a probation officer and union president, I know what it means to fight for good wages, benefits, and dignity on the job. Our district deserves someone who will focus on lowering grocery bills, stabilizing housing, and protecting workers’ rights – including protecting social security from privatization – here at home.
One of the largest burdens on working families is the cost of childcare. I know how critical this issue is to the well-being of many households. We must support working families with affordable childcare, paid family leave, and fair pay for childcare professionals.
As an AFSCME member, I don’t just support unions, I live the struggle of public-sector workers every day. I know that the victories of organized labor lift up all workers and all families by raising the bar for fair wages, benefits, and respect on the job. Serving as a leader in the labor movement is one of my proudest accomplishments, and as your representative, I’ll always remain accountable to working people.
As a renter myself, I believe that we deserve protection from predatory increases, but we must also be fair to the small landlords and property owners who are trying to make reasonable returns on their investments.
We also have to recognize that many marginalized communities are stepping into property ownership for the first time, becoming first-generation wealth builders for their families. We want them to succeed because their success means stronger, more stable neighborhoods for all of us.
At the same time, too many working families feel locked out of the dream of homeownership. I will fight for programs that help renters move toward ownership so that more families can build equity, stability, and generational wealth.
And I’ll work to end homelessness with compassion and action by expanding supportive housing, mental health care, and job assistance because no one should be left without a safe place to live in our state.
Every Minnesotan deserves access to quality, affordable health care — no exceptions. I will protect Medicare and the Affordable Care Act, because access to care should never depend on politics or partisanship.
I will work to expand affordable coverage so families and small businesses can get the care they need without risking financial ruin. Too many Minnesotans are priced out of essential care, and that’s simply unacceptable. Health care is not a privilege; it’s a fundamental right, and I’m committed to making that a reality.
I will take on big pharmaceutical companies to lower the cost of prescription drugs, cap out-of-pocket expenses for families and seniors, and increase transparency in hospitals and insurance billing so people know exactly what they’re paying for and why.
And I will invest in mental health and addiction services, ensuring that care and compassion are accessible to every Minnesotan, because when our neighbors are healthy, our communities are stronger.
I will always defend a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions. Politicians have no place interfering in personal medical choices.
I will fight to protect access to abortion care and codify Roe v. Wade into federal law, ensuring reproductive freedom is protected for generations to come.
I will also work to expand reproductive health services, including access to contraception, fertility care, and improved maternal health, so women and families can thrive with dignity and security.
Because true freedom means having control over our own bodies, our choices, and our futures.
As a probation officer, I’ve spent decades balancing accountability and second chances. I know public safety is about prevention, fairness, and community trust — not slogans and empty rhetoric. Our neighbors want to feel safe, and they want justice. I’ll fight for both.
I’ve spent my career on the frontlines of justice reform. I’ll champion smart policies that reduce recidivism, expand reentry programs, and help people build new lives after incarceration.
As a probation officer, I’ve seen firsthand how gun violence tears families and communities apart. Every Minnesotan deserves to feel safe at home, at school, and in their neighborhood.
I support common-sense gun safety reforms: expanding background checks, closing loopholes, keeping guns out of the hands of domestic abusers, and making it possible for communities to ban assault weapons. I’ll also invest in community-based prevention programs and mental health services that save lives before tragedy strikes.
Protecting people and building safer communities isn’t just good policy, it’s a moral responsibility.
I know firsthand the vital importance of the government programs that help our most marginalized and that provide opportunities for the middle class. These programs have been the boost that I’ve needed along my journey, and as a parole officer I see how important it is to make sure people do not fall into the cracks that leave them desperate and vulnerable because suffering magnifies and hurts the entire community.
These kinds of government programs are collective investments made by us all to improve our overall well-being, one life at a time, and their success is of such vital importance that I take a no tolerance attitude towards fraud and abuse of taxpayer dollars. Those who take advantage of our social programs steal from those in need and sow distrust in our government. I will relentlessly pursue accountability for all forms of corruption.
Under the current administration, it has become clear that we must work to defend democracy, not only abroad, but here at home. We must support our allies, honor our veterans, and ensure our military has the resources needed to keep America safe. Our military service personnel must not be used as political props, or asked to violate the constitution.
One of the most disturbing MAGA policy priorities is the weakening of our democracy through disenfranchisement. We are seeing an intensification of efforts meant to make it harder for people to participate in democracy, when we need to do the opposite and encourage greater participation. In the face of these challenges we must expand voter rights, strengthen election security, and recommit to the Voting Rights Act.
Central to re-committing to democracy is supporting pathways to legal immigration. Our democracy, and our economy, is built on a promise to provide opportunity for all, and under our current broken immigration system we are failing on this promise. We must expand pathways to legal immigration, and we need to find fair, humane, and efficient ways for people to make their way through the system. Above all, families must be kept together.
With the rapid and dangerous expansion of ICE under Trump’s administration, we must work to hold federal agents accountable, and trim their budget back to previous levels. I will not stand by while Trump funds an unauthorized and unconstitutional attack on our immigrants and on our democracy.
Civil rights are the foundation of our democracy, protecting them isn’t optional, it’s essential. I will always stand up for the rights of every Minnesotan to live free from discrimination and injustice, no matter their race, gender, faith, or background.
At a time when MAGA extremists are working to roll back hard-won rights, we must stand united in defending equality, freedom, and justice for all.
As someone who has spent her career standing up for fairness, accountability, and justice, I know that protecting civil rights means safeguarding the very heart of who we are as a nation.
Every person deserves to live with dignity, safety, and respect. I will always stand up for the rights of LGBTQ+ and transgender Minnesotans to live freely and authentically, without fear of discrimination or harassment.
I will work to strengthen protections so that no one is denied opportunity or treated unfairly because of who they are or who they love.
I will also fight to ensure equal access to health care for LGBTQ+ and transgender people, including gender-affirming care, because everyone deserves the freedom to make personal decisions about their own bodies and well-being.
Hate and discrimination have no place in Minnesota or anywhere in America. Together, we can build a future where equality isn’t just promised, it’s practiced.
Climate change is real and our inaction not only impacts our children and grandchildren, it is causing harm right now, most critically for our marginalized communities and working families. The White House’s withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accords is unacceptable, as is his divestment from Biden’s Infrastructure Bill that gave us tools for addressing climate change while creating good paying American jobs for the future. I will work to get us back on track to meeting our responsibilities to our children and our global partners.
Our kids can’t learn on an empty stomach or in unsafe schools. I’ll make sure every child in our district has the meals, counselors, resources, and after-school opportunities they need to thrive. I will also work to bring back the Department of Education so we can ensure all children receive equal treatment under the law and that we don’t fall behind in readiness and remain a global leader in innovation and quality of life.
Our veterans put their lives on the line for this country, and too often they come home to face new battles — finding housing, health care, and good jobs. We owe our veterans more than words of gratitude; we owe them honor, dignity, opportunity, and unwavering support.
I will fight to ensure every veteran and military family has access to quality health care, affordable housing, and career opportunities that match their skills and service. Those who served our nation should never have to struggle to build a stable life when they return home.
Our elders deserve to retire with dignity, which is why I will work to protect Medicare and strengthen Social Security. We also have to keep prescription drug costs low and ensure that long-term care is affordable.
